Building a common IT platform: One Corporate System training course in Nairobi

The One Corporate System (OCS) – which aims to harmonize administrative procedures across CGIAR Centers – is progressing well. OCS will be a common, automated, integrated support system for managing research projects, human resources, finances and other administrative functions. Nine CGIAR Centers and the Consortium Office are involved. The base system has been built and tested, the cloud based system infrastructure is in place, and training programs are being implemented. Localization of the system (software modifications to meet Center-specific requirements) has begun at three Centers (CIP, IRRI and WorldFish), with other Centers to follow in phases. Localization for ICARDA is scheduled for October.

Six ICARDA staff from the Corporate Services division and various research programs participated in training courses on the design of the new system. Four others will undergo the localization build starting in October this year. The courses were conducted in Nairobi in July and August, and covered accounting, research project management and human resources aspects, as well as technical issues relating to localization, system installation and maintenance. ICARDA’s participation in this initiative is led by Mr Hashem Abed, OCS Project Manager.
