Palestine-ICARDA partnership expands

HE Dr Ahmad Majdalani, Palestine’s Acting Minister of Agriculture and ICARDA’s Director General, Dr Mahmoud Solh sign new MoU. Participants at the signing included Dr Mohammad Abu Eid, Director General of the National Agriculture Research Centre and Dr Naser El Jagob, Consultant of the Ministry of Agriculture. From ICARDA, Dr Kamel Shideed, ADG - International Cooperation and Communication, ICARDA, Dr Nasri Haddad, Coordinator, West Asia Regional Program and Dr Abdallah Alimari, ICARDA National Coordinator in Palestine.

Palestine and ICARDA have signed a new Memorandum of Understanding to further strengthen their collaboration. The Memorandum was signed in Amman, Jordan, by His Excellency Dr Ahmad Majdalani, Acting Minister of Agriculture of the Palestinian National Authority and Dr Mahmoud Solh, ICARDA Director General.

This agreement strengthens four projects supported by the Netherlands government and the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development (AFESD) and three regional projects where Palestine is involved. The research priorities identified in the Memorandum include adaptation to climate change, water and land management; crop improvement, livestock, strengthening of policies and institutions, and capacity development of Palestine’s  national research and extension systems.
