Ahmad Al-Saleh

Mr Ahmad Al-Saleh, Research Assistant in Durum Wheat Breeding defended with excellence, his MSc thesis entitled Identification of Quantitative Traits Loci (QTL) for Grain Quality Traits in Durum Wheat (Triticum turgidum var. durum) Mapping Population Derived from Kunduru x Cham1.

This study, carried out under the supervision of Dr Miloudi Nachit from ICARDA and Prof. Hakan Ozkan from Cukurova University, Turkey, will facilitate the mapping of genes. It has led to the detection of many QTLs that govern several important traits. It provided an integrated picture of the genetic basis of durum quality and generated valuable information for breeding programs. Important QTLs were identified for marker-assisted selection and can be used in durum wheat breeding programs in the Mediterranean region.
