Dr Flavio Capettini

Dr Flavio Capettini has been appointed Coordinator of ICARDA’s Global Barley Enhancement Program. Dr Capettini joined ICARDA in 2000 to manage the ICARDA-CIMMYT barley program for Latin America. Four years later he moved to ICARDA headquarters, where he works on barley varieties with multiple disease resistance and good grain quality, suitable for favorable environments. Before joining ICARDA Dr Capettini was head of the barley breeding program at the National Agricultural Research Institute of Uruguay. He has a PhD in plant breeding from the University of Minnesota, and 23 years of experience in barley breeding. He and his teams have developed a number of varieties that have been released in low- and high-income countries worldwide. Congratulations!
