Majedyya, Jordan: Palestinian dignitaries, local community leaders, scientists and donor representatives shared views on the impact of research projects

National decision makers from Palestine visited ICARDA’s office in Amman, Jordan, during 14-16 June. The delegation consisted of Eng. Abdallah Lahlouh and Mr Atef Rabaia, Directors General of Planning and Finance/Administration respectively, at the Ministry of Agriculture; and Dr Mohamed Abu Eid, Director General of the National Agriculture Research Centre.

The visitors were briefed on ICARDA’s work in West Asia, including new new projects recently launched in Palestine. Together with USAID experts, they visited the Mahreb and Al Majedyya areas – key research sites for the USAID Water and Livelihood Initiative led by ICARDA – and interacted with local community leaders.

Meetings at the National Center for Agricultural Research and Extension and ICARDA’s West Asia Regional Program office in Amman helped identify areas where Jordan-Palestine-ICARDA collaboration could be expanded. These include, for example, rehabilitation of research stations and staff training, protected agriculture, herbal plants, and conservation of genetic resources.
