New staff at ICARDA

Mr Erwin Lopez

Mr Erwin Lopez is ICARDA’s new Director of Finance. He brings a wealth of experience in finance and audit, and detailed knowledge of the CGIAR System. Mr Lopez is a Certified Public Accountant, a Certified Internal Auditor, and a qualified lawyer. He has been a Senior Internal Auditor at the CGIAR for the past eight years, working closely with various CGIAR Centers. In 2008, he spent 6 months at ICARDA, on secondment from the CGIAR Internal Audit Unit, providing specialized assistance for the Center’s Finance Department. Mr Lopez is from the Philippines. He and his wife Jomelyn have four young children. Welcome aboard!

 

 

Dr Mohammad Al-Abid

Dr Mohammad Al-Abid has joined ICARDA as Coordinator of the Date Palm Project, and will be based at ICARDA’s office in Oman. Dr Al-Abid, an Iraqi national, completed his postgraduate studies in Germany: diploma in Food Technology from Hohenheim-Stuttgart University, PhD from Bavarian Julius-Maximilians Würzburg University. He has published extensively on post-harvest management, processing and value addition in date palm, including chemical studies of fruit characteristics. His experience includes research, teaching, as well as training and dissemi

nation programs. For the past 10 years, he served as Expert in Food Technology at the government Date Palm Research Center in Oman. Welcome aboard!
